Wii U - Doesn't Play DVD and Blu-ray Movies
More info about Nintendo’s new console the Wii U has surfaced. Satoru Iwata, CEO, has said that Wii U online functionality will feature a “more flexible system” for developers to use.
Nintendo has also said that they’ve worked with publishers to enable voice chat (VoIP) and that the Wii U will interact with social sites such as Facebook. They haven’t given us any concrete information, but said gamers will be impressed with the new online infrastructure when all is revealed.
The Wii U will also not play any DVDs or Blu-rays, as Nintendo believes that costs were too high for technology that already exists elsewhere in the household.
Nintendo hopes you’ll wait for the new console which will release in 2012, rather than buying another HD experience console.
Activision has also praised the console, with Eric Hirshberg, Activision Publishing chief, saying:
“They’re committing to HD, greater processing power, digital infrastructure, connected universe at the back end… Those are all the things we need to make a state of the art experience for a lot of games. So we were thrilled to hear their plans and I think that anyone that bets against Nintendo does so at their peril. They’re a pretty great company.”

3DS Reaches 1 million Sales in Japan
The 3DS has at last topped the million mark in domestic sales. Enterbrain reported the sales feat in its May sales report, which Mainichi passed along today.
Nintendo's fledging portable took thirteen weeks to reach the million mark. In contrast, the DS reached the mark in its fourth week. The DS Lite and DSi took eight weeks. The last major DS iteration, DSi LL (XL outside of Japan) took 25 weeks.
While the 3DS was the top selling platform immediately following release, the PSP took the top spot in April and retained it in May.

Nintendo Wii U Games Shown Were Actually Xbox 360 and PS3 Versions
In a bizarre twist to an otherwise exciting news day, during an interview today just following Nintendo’s showing of its new Wii U system and games, company honcho Reggie Fils-Amie told GameTrailers that the sizzle reel of games shown today were not actually from the Wii U. Instead, when asked if they were from PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, Reggie replied “Absolutely, because we’re talking a year away from when the console will launch.”
Wii U - Garden Tech Demo
The demo is interactive, with the player having to press B at certain points to trigger events such as the bird picking up a flower. There is no fixed view to the demo, meaning the pad can also be used to move the controller and get a wider view of the surrounding environment.
MGS 3D Too Big For 3DS Cartridges
Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater is too big to fit on standard 3DS cartridges. Konami has revealed it asked Nintendo to manufacture special 4GB carts specifically for the game.
Tekken Coming To The Wii U and 3DS
Namco Bandai announced two new Tekken titles are currently in development for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. These two new titles mark the first time Tekkenhas appeared on a Nintendo platform since Tekken Advance, which launched nearly ten years ago on the Game Boy Advance.
Tekken (working title) on Wii U will be the first Tekken title to appear on a Nintendo home video game console. Namco Bandai states that they will be “making full use of the new platform’s cutting-edge performance to deliver a new fighting sensation for Tekken games.”
Tekken for 3DS will be the first Tekken game to see a 3D format.

Reggie Fils-Aime then took to the stage and announced Wii U. Just like the rumors, the device has a controller with a 6.2″ touch screen on it.
Core titles such as Batman Arkham City, Colonial Marines, Ninja Gaiden and Ghost Recon will be coming to the console, all shown with PS3 level graphics.
Nintendo will be the first to venture into the next generation – something that gave Microsoft a crucial leg up on the PlayStation 3 this console cycle. Should Sony release the PlayStation 4 soon ?

New Firmware Update For The 3DS
After a slight delay, the 3DS eShop is now open for business. That’s just one numerous features enabled in a major system update that just went live a few moments ago. Gamers can also use the system’s Internet browser and transfer DSiWare games from their DSi/DSi XL system to the 3DS. Supposedly system owners can enable automatic updates as well.

Project Cafe : New E3 Details
The System:
- Uses a custom IBM triple-core CPU running at 3.6GHz per core
- The development kit contains 1gb RAM, but Nintendo have hinted that the console will actually have 1.5gb
- Nintendo will be releasing games that will run 1080p natively. Sources say that with Nintendo’s art style and the power the system has, the games look ‘stunning’.
- The system does run on AMD R700 card, but the architecture is slightly different and the clock speeds are much higher.
- The System resembles JPN/EU SNES machines in color only and not in shape
- The development kit is about the size of a 360, not the console
- Close sources say it’s as if Nintendo is in “damage control” with 3rd party developers. Nintendo is trying really hard to get 3rd parties on board to develop games and have offered incentives such as not releasing big-title Nintendo games in holiday seasons to compete against 3rd party titles.
- Nintendo went to many 3rd party developers on guidance on what they were after with the new console in terms of system specs, controller and online system.
The Controller:
- Nintendo have been keeping this really quiet and have only given developers controller prototypes to start designing games. However, the final controller build with all the features have only been given to Nintendo 1st and 2nd party developers for now.
- Nintendo had planned on inserting a screen on the controller back when the Gamecube was in development, but opted out due to technology not being advanced enough to be functional
- The controller that’s been given to developers has a large 5.7inch hd (960x640pixel) screen, 2 analogue sticks, 4 face buttons, 3 middle buttons (select/home/start in that order), 2 shoulder buttons and 2 triggers.
- The triggers aren’t as deep as the 360’s triggers, but have plenty of push
- The big thing about the screen is that it’s a multi-touch screen, contains it’s own battery and is detachable from the controller unit
- The screen when detached contains its own memory so developers can store data on it, so gamers can play whatever the developer designs for the screen-only use
- When the screen is attached to the controller it works by streaming content directly from the console
- Nintendo are giving developers ideas other than just having it function as a quick menu screen for games while attached, or as a simple tamagochi-like mini-game when detached
- The controller contains a gyroscope, but motion controls isn’t the focus of the controller like it was for the Wii
Games:
- Nintendo will release a Mario platformer as a launch title which hasn’t been done since the N64.
- The Mario platformer looks to be the spiritual successor to Mario 64.
- Gamefreak and EAD are hard at work developing a Pokemon online RPG.
- The Pokemon RPG is not an MMO, but does have a large online emphasis and will be Nintendo’s flagship title when showing off the online capabilities of the console.
- There will be at least one new IP Nintendo will reveal at E3.
- Nintendo is working on a new Zelda, but didn’t reveal anything to developers.
Other:
- Some developers have had the Wii 2 dev kit for going on 2 years now. When the Wii 2 is released in late, that’s 3 years to develop games on.
- Because of such generous development time, Nintendo have pushed 3rd parties to develop high quality games to be released at or near launch.
- Nintendo have sourced an external company to develop their online network, which the developer has commented, surpasses both the PS3 and 360 in terms of speed and functionality.
- Nintendo is pushing for the console to be online 24/7 and have seamless online integration with many of their games
- Friend codes are confirmed to be gone
- Nintendo has been toying with the idea of a game where the main character is your Mii
- Nintendo will be pushing their Pokemon RPG to showcase their online network
- Rockstar are supposedly hard at work in bringing on of their “most popular” titles to the console.
1st 3DS Roms Dumped
In an abrupt turn of events, a release group by the name of LGC has apparently managed to dump the first 3DS roms. The roms dumped are the European versions of Super Monkey Ball 3D and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars. These releases come along with actual release nfo's. Both roms are 2048Mbit (or 256MB), which is smaller than the largest DS rom. LGC is not a new group, they have dumped DS and DSi roms before, so it's probable that this claim may be real. Also, the source comes form Ludibria, a popular site that posts scene release data for many systems. It remains unknown how LGC did this or what tools they used. And for now, the dumps remain unusable due to a lack of compatible flashcards.
